The God Box

God Box

Written and Performed by Antonia Lassar
Directed by Nikki Diloreto

The God Box is an award winning one-woman show about the struggle to find faith in a multi-faith world.  When her daughter dies, Gloria Adelman discovers the unthinkable- her daughter wasn’t a practicing Jew!  Amid Buddha’s and Bibles, Gloria searches for her daughter’s true faith in order to give her the right funeral. The God Box is a poignant comedy of how faith is passed on, and what happens when it isn’t.

The God Box does not give answers, but instead asks questions: Are we expected to follow our family’s traditions?  How does learning about other identities help us to understand our own?  This performance wrestles with the complexities of interfaith dialogue in our communities.  Following the performance is a post-show discussion.

Antonia Lassar (Actor and Writer) is a performer currently based in New York, by way of Boston, Cape Town, and Hogwarts.  She is a 2012 graduate of the Boston University School of Theatre with a BFA in Theatre Arts.  Some of Antonia’s favorite roles have been a villain in a mustache, a mouse catcher, and Beyoncé.  She is also an accomplished performance poet, and represented the Boston Poetry Slam at the 2012 National Poetry Slam.  Most of all, she is thankful that her mother still loves her enough to brag about her.
